[M.M.X.I.V. 116] One thousand!

It’s the first natural number with four digits!

However, what this post refers to was referred to in a roundabout way earlier in the week.  As I mentioned in the post “Wandering in wonder,” I said that one of my places was a place that I was excluded from visiting, one thousand days prior to that post.

Well, three days after that was my return to the United States, and on the afternoon of July 31, 2011, I wrote my first blog post.  That date was exactly a thousand days ago, and in fact, I intentionally timed this post’s posting schedule to be at the same time that I posted “Journeys,” at 13:00 Central Daylight Time.  (I wrote it ahead of time, because at 13:00, I would be at Hillel eating lunch, and though I am not שומר שבת (shomer-Shabbat), I don’t bring my phone or electronic devices to services and meals.)

I considered doing an analysis of how often wrote blog posts.  Well, in my first thousand days in the blogosphere, I have written 346 posts (including this one), which means that I have written a post, on average, of once every three days.  Clearly, the challenges M.A.P.L.E., O.C.T.O.B.E.R., and M.M.X.I.V. have helped to pad(?) those numbers.  There were definitely some long breaks in my blogging, but I have mostly managed to keep a consistent schedule.

My readership has gradually increased, possibly with the partial aid of getting out through The Daily Post, reading others’ blogs, and sharing my posts on Facebook and Twitter.  My total number of hits are on the order of 6,500 since the beginning, with significantly higher averages in the times when I post more frequently, which is not surprising.

In particular, the months of August 2011, May 2012, October 2012, May 2013, and October 2013 got average daily hits of 15, 16, 9, 18, and 15, respectively.  Though August 2011 was not post-every-day, I did have a large number of posts that were mostly long reads on my adventures.  On months where I did NOT post every day, the best average that I got was 6 hits per day.

This year with M.M.X.I.V., my daily average has soared to 19 hits per day.  I will admit that I am not obsessed over the numbers, but it does suggest that people like to read fresh material.
