[M.M.X.I.V. 315] A crooning clan

Music is so much fun, and yesterday’s Monday’s Music Moves Me had the theme of “the blessing of family and friends.”  Therefore, I wanted to list a few songs that either my family has sang together, or that have become part of family lore in one way or another.

The first two listed songs: One of them I mentioned a few weeks ago, and the other almost two-and-a-half years ago (the former is  also on that list)!  The former is one that our whole family likes to sing, particularly the part that was sang at the wedding.  The latter is one that particularly causes Mom to crack up whenever Levi and I sing in unison like so:

NOAH: “And I will walk five hundred miles,”

LEVI: “And will walk five hundred more,”

BOTH: “Just to BE the man who walked a thousand MILES to fall down at your door,”

NOAH: “Na-na-nah!”

LEVI: “Na-na-nah!”

NOAH: “Na-na-nah!”

LEVI: “Na-na-nah!”

BOTH: “Ba-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum…”

Here are the actual songs…

Should Levi and I try to moonlight as a singing duo?  Maybe not…

A couple other fun songs that have been dinner table songs: “One Night In Bangkok” and “Build Me Up Buttercup.”  During the end of high school, at least once, I became the American tourist through Siam, and mentioned, “It’s Iceland, or the Phillipines, or Hastings… or, or THIS PLACE!”  And then our favorite line at the very end: “So you better go back to your bars, your temples, your massage parlours…” in my worst New York accent.

The other one, “Build Me Up Buttercup” has been sang at Gramma Lea and Papa’s table, with my siblings, and cousins.  There is a family video around somewhere with this, and it reminds me of the good times with that.  Although it is not my favorite song, it definitely improves when our family does it a-cappella style, as usual!

One more: when our family is all together, we will count off using the call “Oogie Boogie!”  This idea started, if I recall correctly, during my 16th-birthday weekend when we went to Kansas City.  It was NOT based off the song, but due to the family mystique of the phrase, the song has entered my consciousness.

That’s all the time that I should spend on the blog for now.  Since this is a Blog Hop, let me post the Linky party here…

    • Excellent, Tay! And the song is perfectly understandable as a road trip song if you think about it, even if driving 500 miles is less difficult than walking that same distance 🙂

Let's have a conversation!
