[M.A.P.L.E. VII-6] Escape!

Notice: Though it might sound like EVACUATE!, the idea will be a lot different here. (Wow, citing my third-ever M.A.P.L.E. post, and today’s post is now the 192nd. Note to self: That means that M.A.P.L.E. VII-14 will be my Bicentennial post in the M.A.P.L.E. sequence!)

It is something that I have done for the first time, and it was a lot of fun.

We’ll all stick together in all kinds of weather

The school song for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has the following lyrics:

“There is no place like Nebraska,

Dear old Nebraska U,

Where the girls are the fairest,

The boys are the squarest,

Of any old school that I knew!

There is no place like Nebraska,

Where they’re all true blue,

We’ll all stick together

In all kinds of weather

For dear old Nebraska U!”

After last weekend, it made me realize how the “all kinds of weather” line is super salient to me. Not just for Dear Old Nebraska U, but also for my friends and causes that I care about. I can offer several examples from recent years that show my loyalty to people, teams, and causes are rarely sidetracked by the weather. These are in approximate chronological order.

Leaving noises

Whenever my family is getting ready to go somewhere out of the house, my Dad uses the expression “leaving noises,” in the sense, “OK, let’s make leaving noises.”

I guess that literal leaving noises would be doors opening and closing, the up-and-down motion of bags, the rolling of wheels, and footsteps making a beeline for the vehicle of choice.
